Artist Statement

"Hurkle-Durkle"—an 18th-century Scottish word for the fine art of lounging in bed long after it’s time to get up. This piece is a joyous tribute to the art of deliberate rest. By setting the stacked vertical text against a lively field of multi-colored polka dots, I wanted to capture the cozy, vibrant optimism of slow mornings and unapologetic comfort. Painted in acrylic on board, Hurkle Durkle blends linguistic charm with rhythmic pattern design. It serves as a colorful, affectionate reminder that taking time for yourself isn't just necessary—it’s something to be celebrated.
