Artist Statement
The inspiration for this piece stems from a pivotal moment in the film The King (2019, directed by David Michôd). When a court official pointedly challenges the King's companion with the question, "Who are you?", the retort is instantaneous, sharp, and absolute: "I am I."

It is a statement that packs a tremendous psychological punch. It is simple, all-knowing, and fiercely self-assured. In a world where our sense of self is constantly challenged by outside expectations—by who we think others want us to be, or what we imagine they think of us—true identity requires a stripping away of the noise. Knowing who you are is fundamentally about knowing who you are not.
