Artist Statement
On early morning walk just off the Gold Coast Highway (Australia), I stumbled upon a piece of living heritage: one of the few original Gold Coast motels still standing. For so many of us, these buildings are instantly recognisable, a nostalgic touchstone to a bygone era when families (mine included) packed up the car and headed north, chasing the Queensland sun.

Beyond its retro charm, this motel carries a rich tapestry of Australian subculture and local lore. From the quirkily named motels owned by the same owner in the late '90s (The Van Diemen and The Red Emu) to tabloid headlines involving international models and high-stakes drama, its walls hold decades of unsung stories.

Standing defiantly on the threshold of inevitable change, this motel is a piece of living heritage. The Classic is a celebration of Australian nostalgia, capturing a quintessential icon before time and progress reshape the coast forever.
